Leading dermatologists believe that it's important to protect and moisturize hands in addition to treating them with topical medication for hand eczema.1 That's why Tetrix™ Cream and CeraVe® Moisturizing Cream are packaged together.
When you bring your prescription for Tetrix™ Cream to your pharmacist, you will receive a package that includes:
- Two 2 oz. tubes of Tetrix™ Cream
- Two complimentary tubes of CeraVe® Moisturizing Cream and a coupon for one full-sized CeraVe® product
- Instructions for how to use the products together
Follow these step-by-step instructions only when your dermatologist has indicated that Tetrix™ Cream can be used safely over your other medication(s). If you have any questions, please call your dermatologist.
Step 1—Cleanse:
Wash hands and affected areas with an alcohol-free, moisturizing cleanser like CeraVe® Hydrating Cleanser, then gently pat dry.
Step 2—Medicate:
Apply medications as your dermatologist has instructed.
Step 3—Moisturize:
Wait several minutes, then apply a moisturizer like CeraVe® Moisturizing Cream to cover hands and affected areas. Gently massage into hands and affected areas until all the cream is absorbed into the skin. Unlike most moisturizers, CeraVe® Moisturizing Cream contains special ingredients that can help repair your skin's natural protective function.
Step 4—Protect:
Wait several minutes, then apply Tetrix™ Cream to hands and affected areas. Gently massage into hands and affected areas. Since Tetrix™ Cream provides a barrier to protect the skin, be sure that Tetrix™ Cream is the last step in your regimen.
Using Tetrix™ Cream and CeraVe® Moisturizing Cream together may be your best defense against irritants that can cause recurrent hand eczema.
Other tips for success
Making lifestyle changes may help minimize the effect hand eczema has on your daily life. Talk to your doctor. Together, you can determine what will work best for you. Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- Before washing your hands, remove any rings, as they can trap soap and moisture. Use lukewarm water and a small amount of soap. Gently pat your hands on a towel to dry
- Avoid washing dishes or laundry by hand—soap and water can irritate hands
- Avoid multiple/excessive hand washings
- Wear vinyl gloves for cleaning, gardening, and even folding laundry, as well as for holding citrus/acidic fruits and peeling vegetables
- Prevent hands from sweating—especially inside gloves
- Wear unlined leather gloves in cold weather
- Avoid products containing alcohol or fragrances
- Try to reduce your stress—meditation, yoga, and regular exercise may help
- Eat a healthy diet
- Protect your hands against irritants every day with prescription Tetrix™ Cream
